چکیده

RECENTLY a great deal of attention has been focused on the problem of carbon dioxide accumulation during anaesthesia (Stead et ah, 1953; Harbord, and Lucas, 1953). A number of articles have appeared describing investigations on the actual figures for " alveolar air " or arterial carbon dioxide tensions found during anaesthesia. Ringrose et al. (1950) developed a carbon dioxide indicator showing a qualitative measurement of carbon dioxide in anaesthetic atmospheres. Harrison and Jones (1955) were unable to find, however, that this method has a practical value. Engell and Ibsen (1952) used a carbovisor based on a photoelectrical principle to obtain a continuous recording of carbon dioxide estimations during thoracic operations. Eastwood and Harbord (1955) correlated the changes in tidal volume with those of " alveolar air " concentrations.

Induction of euthanasia using carbon dioxide in rat: an overview of the available practical guidelines

Background and aims: Euthanasia is used to define ending an animal's life in a way that results in rapid anesthesia and death without pain or distress. One of the most common methods of performing euthanasia in rats is the administration of carbon dioxide (CO2). The aim of this study was to review the available practical guidelines for inducing euthanasia in rats by administrating CO2. M...

Measurement and Analysis of Green Energy Economy Indicators in Iran (Measurement of Carbon Dioxide Emission and its Elasticity)

Achieving sustainable economic growth is one of the most important goals of countries' economic programs and policies in the current era. Along with economic growth, consumption of energy rises. Since fossil fuels provide a major share of the world's energy, increased fuel consumption is an inevitable feature of economic growth.  Continuation of this trend increases greenhouse gas emmissions, n...

The measurement of gaseous exchange during nitrous oxide anaesthesia.

A method is described for the estimation of carbon dioxide output, oxygen uptake, and respiratory exchange ratio during nitrous oxide anaesthesia. The inspired and expired minute volumes are measured with a box-bag system, the carbon dioxide concentrations with a carbon dioxide sensitive electrode, and the oxygen concentrations with a polarograph. Carbon dioxide output can be measured with a co...

Comparison of end-tidal and arterial carbon dioxide measurements during anaesthesia with the laryngeal mask airway.

We have confirmed the value of measurement of end-tidal carbon dioxide concentration as an indicator of arterial carbon dioxide tension during the use of the laryngeal mask airway in healthy patients breathing spontaneously. The mean difference between arterial and end-tidal carbon dioxide tension was 0.52 kPa (range 0-1.5 kPa), which is similar to the difference which has been reported when a ...

Systemic recirculation assessed in apnoeic anaesthetized patients using carbon dioxide concentration measurements during stepwise expiration.

BACKGROUND Mixed venous partial pressure of carbon dioxide has often been estimated in anaesthesia, usually by rebreathing techniques. This assumes equilibrium between respired gas and mixed venous blood before significant recirculation can occur, and requires vigorous rebreathing and precise identification of equilibrium. Modern clinical sidestream capnometers do not measure gas composition as...
